Davidsgja, Adamsgja, Bjarnagja!

Diving in Iceland's Fresh Water

Obviously, Silfra is the most famous dive in Iceland. But there is so mch more to explore! Look into some of these amazing alternatives, if you're ready to visit more places besides Silfra.

There are multiple worthwhile dive sites to visit:

Davidsgja: a 10 minute drive from Silfra. The entrypoint is usually a giant stride, but there are shore entries for less mobile scuba divers. The fissure is much wider than Silfra, and visibility not as good. Expect still an easy 30 meters visibility on any day.

Adamsgja: This fissure is an extension of sorts from Davidsgja. Although the dive sites are sometimes combined, Adamsgja is much deeper and longer. Often, the entry is a shore entry with a 5 minute surface swim, before descending. The fissure starts around 10 meters deep, dropping down to about 35 meters.

Bjarnagja: This is a really cool and different dive than the ones mentioned above! This fissure is 100 meters from the ocean and some salt water is in this fissure. They even dropped a small ship in the fissure for you to explore. This site isn't large, but still very cool to explore with a small group!

Staying in Iceland

Iceland isn't cheap, but that should be no surprise. There are many ways to enjoy this gorgeous country, and many people opt for a campervan to drive around and sleep wherever you please.

When you're in Iceland for Scuba diving, your base of operations will be Reykjavic since it's connected to most dive sites.

You can camp near Silfra, but there are no hotels nearby except for in Reykjavic.

Visibility is stable with some very rare exceptions, but generally you will enjoy a 50+ meters visibility in the Fresh water lakes!

In the Ocean expect a visibility of maximum 5 meters, or 10 on an exceptional day.
